University of Lagos-UNILAG 2012/2013 CUT-OFF Marks Updates: All You Need to Know About Change of Course forms-Admission Merit List

unilag 2012/2013 cut-off marks change of course
University admission seasons are full of frustrations and drama. Very few joyful stories ever comes out of it. Those who are qualified to get into our higher institutions are denied because of one reason or the other.

In this post I will like to look at the issues surrounding change of course from one course to another or from one faculty to another within the university system using UNILAG as a model.

I will try to cover the implications, the risks, the cost and then give my opinion and recommendation.

Feel free to do what you want but please be guided by benefit of foresight and hindsight.

Why you may Need to change Your Career Course
There are various reasons why you may need to change  your course, some are listed here:

1. you don't meet up to your present course cut-off marks

2. when you feel your chances of getting admission is low

Why you may NOT Need to Your Career Course

 1. if your reason is because you scored higher for the course you choice and need to upgrade- eg you chose IRPM and scored 86 and the cut off mark for accounting is 79, you feel since you actually prefer accounting you should change, this not a valid reason and it is not allowed.

2. you cant change from a lower course to a higher course

3. You can't switch from one faculty to another, except its has education related courses

The Advantages

1. Brighten your admission chances

2. Gives you opportunity to read at least a course in the school of your choice

3. The school will have opportunity to fill those courses that are normally neglected by students- major advantage for the school

4. The pressure on the premium courses like Accounting, Elect/Elect, Medicine and the likes is reduced

5. Gives the students something to hold

6. Can create good students who now discovered that the new course is where they are really gifted and go ahead to become one of the best students from the faculty or department and make a mark in the industry many examples abound.

UPDATE:  UNILAG ADMISSION MERIT LIST-CHECK IT HERE

The Disadvantages

1. You have to chose a lower course and move away from your intended career path

2. You may not like this new course

3. It may change your career destiny. The  available courses are mostly Education courses and some micro courses, although no course is small, but you need to understand our country and the place we are in right now, some course need time to mature in this country.

4. You may do bad in the course because you dont really like the course and your total concentration is not there

5. Complex problems may set in. The students concerned usually feel insecure and inferior in the midst of their friends and fellow students who took the jamb exams together.

6. It causes a lot of tension in families as their are division between parents on the choice of courses.

7. There are unplanned and unforeseen payment and dues that may be involved in the new course, which may not be planned for, this can be an issue in families

The Cost

The form for Unilag last year was N500, if this has been increased is not confirmed yet, but this is  not likely as the university encourages change of course to filled quotas for less disadvantaged courses.

There are other cost which are hidden cost, which you will story experiencing when you get in. Every course has their peculiar cost attached to them, please find out before you make the moves.

The Risks

The risk of change of course are:
1. There is no guarantee that you will gain admission
2. You may not do well in the course as you really were pushed to do the course, usually produce carry-over students
3. Jobs prospect may also be difficult
4. The student may wrongly be influenced as he/she is not happy with the course and may fall victim of bad influence in campus
5. The student may lose out totally from admission
6. These students easily fall preys to admissions fraud and 419, as monies will change hands for "supposed helpers"

When is the Form Sold?

Normally sold in closet- meaning not public knowledge, but usually out in admission office after the released of the Merit list and cut-off points for various departments.

The sales is usually done  within three days, so you need to keep your ears to the ground if you need to.

Examples of change of courses:

In Engineering/Environmental courses, there is no need to do a change as each will be filled up, so you have to just asked to get into the low courses like
MET. & MAT.
SURVEYING & GEO.
BUILDING
QUANTITY SURV.
URB. REG. PLAN.

For Medicine and Science you may change to any of these
PHYSIOLOGY
PHYSIOTHERAPHY
RADIOGRAPHY
CELL BIOLOGY
CHEMISTRY
MICROBIOLOGY
MARINE SCIENCE
MATHEMATICS
BIOCHEMISTRY
BOTANY
PHYSICS
ZOOLOGY
Medical LAB

For Social Science
GEOGRAPHY
PSYCHOLOGY
SOCIAL WORK

You can change to any of the Edu courses
ADULT
BIOLOGY
CHEMISTRY
C.R.S.
EDUC. FRENCH
EDUC. GEOG.
YORUBA EDUC
GUIDANCE & COUNSELLING
MATHEMATICS
PHYSICS
INTEGRATED SCIENCE
ENGLISH EDUCATION
History Education
HUMAN KINETICS
IGBO EDUCATION
ISLAMIC STUDIES EDUCATION

In ARTS, these are choices to change to
EUROPEAN LANGUAGES/FRENCH
EUROPEAN LANGUAGES/RUSSIAN
LINGUISTICS / YORUBA
LINGUISTIC/IGBO
HISTORY & STRATEGIC STUDIES

In all of these the most guaranteed is to changed to any of the education and single major courses.

My Recommendation

If you scored very low and you dont mind reading other courses then you may go for change of course
But if you are determined to read a course of your choice then plan your career and course choice wisely. Prepare for the next year admission and give your best shot.

I do not advise you to change your career destiny because you must get into school, there is no need for that.

Many of these people who took that step are regretting it today. They found out that there are no jobs for the type of course they went out to read in the university, which is why we have more than 30 million able youths who are jobless today in our country.

sincerely, read well and do your best for each course you are going for and with little help you should be able to make it, and if not chose other schools that are not competitive and go the extra mile and read your desire course.

After admission there is no difference between the guy who went to Unilag and UNAB, all are seen as graduates. But the issue I have now is that students dont want to believe this.

He that has an ear let him hear.

Your comments and contributions will be most appreciated and those who have experienced such can give us their stories below.

If this has helped you please help share on facebook and on Twitter, so others can benefit too.

UNILAG POST UTME RESULTS-ADMISSION 2012/2013 CUT-OFFS MARKS UPDATE: MERIT LIST, SUPPLEMENTARY LIST, CATCHMENT AREAS and Educationally Disadvantaged States For ADMISSION

UPDATE

DOWNLOAD 2013 UNILAG PAST QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS HERE

Many candidates are very worried, fear, anxiety and frustration is all they see.
Very are smiling and the reason why is not far-fetch. You need to know about merit list, supplementary list and catchment areas to fancy your admission chances.

These things are very important so that you dont kill yourself of tension. after
I wrote about what to do if you score below 50 in the post ume exams, many students have been calling and writing in to ask for merit list and supplementary list.

careerplusonline.net/unilagpostgraduatepastquestionsanswers

UPDATE:  UNILAG ADMISSION 2012/2013 MERIT LIST-CHECK IT HERE

UPDATE VIEW THE REAL CUT-OFF MARKS 2012/2013 HERE

Below is my explaination.

MERIT LIST ADMISSION

Merit list is for those who meet the cut off marks. They deserved the admission on merit.
The university will fix a cut off mark following the general performance of candiddates in a perticular examination. They use a marginal curve for this and make sure for each department at least they have 20-30 people who fall inside that curve.

Example:
Now assuming cut-off is 60, and you score 60 and above you will get in on MERIT.
If you scored 59.98 you will not still get in on MERIT, although you may get the admission. Those that got in here are not better than others, just first fruits.

CATCHMENT AREAS

After merit list they will then fix the cut-off mark for catchment areas. this knowledge is very important when you are filling your JAMB form.

Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Osun have catchment with UNILAG-that means they have consideration for admission because the school is located in this region, every school have their catchment  area.

So If you are from Osun for example and you scored 57 you may get into UNILAG on merit even when the cut-off is 60.

do you understand?

SUPPLEMENTARY LIST

Supplementary is everyone who has a godfather, moneybags, connections. Here you did not meet the MERIT list this is your time to shine-lolzz

BUT, you must have the MINIMUM SCORE for admission. E.g In the days before post UTME you must have 200 to enter Unilag, even if you want to read Medicine and the cut-off is 280 for medicine, if you have powerful connection with 200 you will get in.

But with the post ume result, now its different, i think the general cut-off is 40.
So anyone with 40 and above has OPPORTUNITY to make it- it now depends on How u know and HOW MUCH U HAVE TO BUY UR way through.

Educationally Disadvantaged States

These are those mainly from the North. States that they dont have high candidates who wants to get into school are given some quota just to encourage them. States like Bornu, Zamfara, Yobe etc

Hope any question you have is clear now, if not you can ask your question below.

What to do If You Scored Below 50 in Unilag Post UTME 2012/2013 Examinations

From my observation and closeness to UNILAG  admission process, I have observed that there is hardly any one who scored 70 and above in this year post ume exams, if it exist they are very few, in fact we can count them. The general score is between 40-69. please post names of those who scored above 70 below.

Here is my assessment and advise to everyone.

If you score 60 and above.
for competive courses, like accounting, Bus admin, medine, elect/elect/ chem Engineering
Mass comm. law, compuer science, Economics, IRPM, and the likes if you score above 65 you should rest assure you are IN.

If you scored between 60-64 for this coursed your chances are very very bright. like 85%.
But you need to make sure so that you dont lose it, by ensuring someone helps you to press it home.

we can help you in this regards.

If you chose cousres that are not too competitive, especially all educational courses, you are Home and dry-you are IN.

If you scored 50-59

There are courses you will still be able to get in for this marks.
But let say if you are not got in because the cut off is high, then you have to make do with with lower courses - find out the course you can likely do and chose collect the change of course form for this.

If you scored below 50
All hpe is not lost. I know someone will say be realistic - Iam. I know this terrane very well. Mnay couses will have cut-offs as low as 48. Why? The scores are too low!

Do the following:

1. Be ready to take low courses in education
2. find someone to help you push for this
3. take change of course form when it is out
4. Take advantage of other schools- private especially
5. If after all no admission - If you must enter UNILAG- take Unilag Foundation (Diploma)
6. Go redo Jamb and prepare better- this time connect with me on time for assistance and help. I will alos teach you how to select courses and schools- most of you got ity all wrong from inception.
7. Dont kill your self if you dint get in- its not the end of the world- try again next time.
8. Do a professional course - e.g start ATS for accounting/commercial students
do CCNA, and other professional courses for science and engineering students.
9. Engage your mind with productive ventures.

I will talk with you later on this productive ventures.

Have any questions, if yes you can ask your question below.
Please help share this on facebook and Twitter for your friends to read about.

UPDATE VIEW THE REAL CUT-OFF MARKS 2012/2013 HERE

After the post Utme examinations and screening, you finally await the results and then the results are out and favorable. You await the cut-off marks and the admission list. What should you be doing at this time, while the drama plays out?

The days that lie between June to October are tense times for everyone involved in the University admission processes in Nigeria. University aspirants (hopefuls) all over the country are waiting to hear from their top school of choices.

While the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges are busy flipping through files and making the final decisions on whom to admit, Wilfred (the first student consultant in Nigeria) has gone ahead to figure out what the aspirants are expected to be doing. The "don'ts" not left behind!

A University admission officer in one of the popular campus in Nigeria, offers few tips to keep you from going nuts and taking others with you:

Monitor events in your school:

Naijahotjobs Zone spend time and resources developing Web technology that keeps you informed about what’s missing, when the exam comes up, result release, and when your admission status is published. Use it.  Always check your and
subcribe to alerts at the top corner for recent news.

Stay in Touch:

Emphasize your continuing interest in the school and be as specific as possible about why you are interested in a particular school. This might include highlighting which academic and extracurricular programs are most appealing to you, and why you believe the institution is a good match for you. Continued interest, along with strong academic performance, are two key factors colleges are looking for from you at this stage, and it may help with the admissions decision.

Make Powerful Contacts:

If you have friends, families, or anything; use them. We all know how Nigeria is, so seeking little support in terms of favour from such people may be a plus for you. Don't forget to call on God when you need him.

Detect Opportunities and take them:

While you wait, be smart. If you see any opportunity from other schools, take it. Don't be lazy, help your parents in their business or chores at home. That will make them to care for you when you eventually get into school.

Get your documents ready:

It is expected that you have passed one or more of NECO, WAEC or NABTEB as s proof that you successfully passed the number 3, of the 6-3-3-4 education system in Nigeria. Your school of choice will demand for the O'level result/certificate immediately they admit you. They will need to see your Original JAMB result slip, Local Government/State of Origin Certificate, Birth card/Age declaration/Birth Certificate, etc. Get these documents and keep them handy to avoid delays when you are eventually called up by your choice school. Original JAMB Result slip is obtainable from here.

Stay informed for supplimentary admission:

when your school is selling supplementary admission forms, Immediately after merit admission is supplementary. During supplementary admission application, candidates can apply for courses they did not originally choose in a particular school.

The best way to know when your school is selling forms is through our alerts. It keeps you informed via your mobile phones even while you sleep in your house. Make use of it. subcribe and get inform.

Look at for scholarships:

Many students dont take advantage od scholarships that they need to get through schools. You need to start looking for such opportunities, they are everywhere. Some organizations are dedicated to helping young students achive their aims. enrol for such, apply for thema and ask around.
Check your state bursary board if they have opportunities for their students, many from NIGER delta has this fund, but some student never make use of this.

Never give Up:
If you dont get admitted eventually never give up. Re-startegise and look for other schooling o[portunities.
start a proffesional course and enhance yourself. Take a diploma or foundation course, dont stay a year without
increasing your value. Education gives you leverage in today's world. Make use of it.

Send a thank-you note/gift:

Most people forget to say thank you to those who helped them on their way to success. Nver be an ingrate.
You may still need this set of people when after graduation--jobs! So send a note, an email a coard, a samll presents to say "thank you" for the admission help and support. First among the list should be your parents and siblings. Then your teachers or coach.

Write your comments below, if this piece help you help us send it on Twitter and Facebook
