WHEN IS REGISTRATION CLOSING DATE? - UNILAG PG ADMISSION 2016/2017

I got this questions from a student:

" Hello Mr Dan,

When is the closing date for registration, I learnt it's this week, 30th Jan. Please help as I haven't done my registration"

This is a legit question.
The Unilag Pg sent out a circular some weeks back that the registration will last for 4 weeks.

The registration was suppose to start Jan 3rd. However they didn't start then they started Jan 9th  hence most people believed the 4th week will expire Jan 30th.

This is not the case as convocation has eaten deep into the time.
The new date for close of registration as annouce is 24TH february 2017.

Note that date again

24th february 2017.

so you still have 4 weeks to look for money and after that there will be late registration which normally will attract like N10000

so no issue if you ask me.

I will be giving out updates as they come in.

you can do the following as you look for your tuition fees

1. Pay the acceptance/obligatory fees to lock down the admission.

2. Start attending lectures

3. Participate in all class activities, nobody will ask you ro fees, its not secondary school.

THOSE WHO HAD SUPPLEMENTARY RECOMMENDATION

Many applicants have seen their status changed from Not recommended to supplementary recommendation on their portal page.

If this is your case just wait for the list to be out so that you register, till then join in lectures with your teammates.

UNILAG ADMISSION INTO POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA DEGREES IN MARITIME PROGRAMMES (PART-TIME)

The university of lagos has been sending out sms to postgraduate applicants who didn't make the merit list but scored above 40 in the last pg examinations conducted in september to offer them provisional admission in the maritime part time pgd courses.

In this post I provide some details about the programme for those who are interested.

The programmes which was set up some in 2012 started in 2013/2014 session is wholly funded/sponsored by Nigerian Maritime Administration & Safety Agency (NIMASA) is pushing for maritime education in the country.

NIMASA initial take off grant for the programme was N1 Billion which has been increased over the years. The University of Lagos was selected as a beneficiary of one of the four  institutes because it's located in the commercial nerve centre of the country and also situated in a coastal state with a long impressive history in the development of human capacity in Nigeria.

I will be giving out updates as they come in.

NIMASA conceived this scheme to bridge the gap created by shortage of seafarers of Nigerian origin whose average age was put at 65 years. The Agency is sponsoring the training of Nigerian youths in some of the best Maritime Training Institutions across the world to degree level in Marine Engineering, Navigation Technology, Nautical Science and Naval Architecture.

This they say is just a stepping stone to that effect.

The Maritime programmes are designed to equip candidates for exciting career options and/or advancement in Maritime communication, navigation and environmental management.

Just like newly established courses trying to make the course appealing to nigerians who do not fancy such courses because of the perceive job opportunities after the programme.

The courses available are:

- Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Communications & Navigation (PGD-MC)

- Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Environmental Studies (PGD-ME)

Admission Requirements

The programme is open to candidates who possess:

I. Honours Bachelor's Degree in Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Earth Sciences, Geography, Surveying, Education Chemistry, Education Biology and other related disciplines of the University of Lagos or any of the recognized Universities.

II. HND from any of the recognized Polytechnics with a minimum of lower credit with three (3) years working experience

III. Candidates must satisfy all requirements as stipulated by the School of Postgraduate Studies of the University of Lagos. In addition, candidates will be required to undergo a selection process.

Note this selection process for now, does not involve any exams, its just an interview which really is nothing special, they are just looking to see if you will be willing and able to do the course.

Duration of Programme

The duration for the Post Graduate Programmes is 18 months (or 3 semesters)

The FEES

1. Acceptance is N60k
2. Tuition fees is N100k per semester (Total = N360k)

You will be called for an oral interview - really not an interview is just a tete affair. They want to find out if you can pay the required fees.

I will be giving out updates as they come in.

Step-by-Step Guide - HOW to PAY OBLIGATORY & TUITION FEES ONLINE (UNILAG PG SCREENING/REGISTRATION)

Many postgraduates students who were successful in the last MSc, masters and Post graduate diploma exams are getting ready to go through the famous strenuous process of registration and screening.

This is coming after the gruesome and hypertension-causing admission list  drama released last week.

The admission list which came out bit by bit had loads of questions to answer, as many who were recommended did not find their names in the eventual list.

That is story for another day.

The Pg school management eventually  announced registration and screening to start immediately.

However, students are confused as to how and where to pay their fees, as such instructions were not clearly stated.

I have received loads and loads of questions from admitted students and I will try in this post to answer the most popular questions.

Aparts from how to download admission letter and payment advise, which I already treated

Top three questions I received are:

1. When is the Registration/screening starting

2. When will registration end

3. Can we pay our fees online?

Well in this post I will answer all three questions

I will be giving out updates as they come in.

Answer :
Today Jan 9th, but I dont think anyone will be ready to attend to you today till wednesday.

Question 2:

When will registration end/How long?

Answer:
The school says Four weeks, but its usually takes like Two months.
just make sure you pay the obligatory fees to tied down the admission and go start attending lectures until you have the full tuition fees.

Now to

Question 3:

Can we pay Fees online?

Answer:
The answer is YES, and I will provide a step by step guide to Online payment
Also know that there is an option for installmental payment for part time students only

STEP 1: login your student portal and click on PAY ONLINE NOW(REMITA)

STEP 2: It will take you to a breakdown of your fees

1. Obligatory
2. Tuition fees

It will also show you the RRR number for both fees.
RRR(REMITA RETRIEVAL REFERENCE) NUMBER is used for TSA payment.

Note you will pay N100 as charges.

if you prefer, you can take any of these to the bank for bank payment.

Note your RRR number is unique to you, if you use someone else number, that person will be credited with the payment.

STEP 3. CLICK ON THE REMITA Link

for any of them you want to pay, its give you 4 options of payment

1. Online transfer

Select any of the banks you which to do the online transfer and then fill it with token and all and make your payment, make sure you print your receipts which you will use in registration. this is simple and straightforward

Assuming I choice stanbicibtc bank, the following will open for me to input my details.

2, Bank:

copy the RRR number as i said before and head over to any of the banks used by unilag as indicated previously in my post. You can pay any branch nationwide.

Just hand over the RRR number to the cashier and your money tell them it's for Unilag PG.

Just input your card details and that settle it.

NOTE:
for all print out your receipts after payment.

CAN YOU USE QUICKTELLER, PAGA OR USSD TO PAY?

For now, I will say please don't. even if it's possible. don't stress yourself.

My recommendations are:

1. Online transfer ( My first choice)

2. Card payment ( My second choice)

3. Bank ( my boring choice)

How secure is Online payment?

Online payment are very safe in Nigeria, so no fear please. Just make sure the page you want to enter your details its a secured page:

The fees for part payment will be divided into two of equal halves with the added interest rate. e.g N100,000 and below attract interest of N5,000, while above attracts interest of N10,000.

Your payment advise will be adjusted to reflect this.

Its official, the Registration for the newly admitted Pg students will commence January 3rd 2016. But if you ask me that is a belated news as event has overtaken that, so the new date is January 11th 2016.

This was contained in the latest post on the university website this afternoon.

However, days for lectures were not mentioned. But from experience lectures will commerce almost a week after. So I advise students to try and attend lectures as they do their registration.

The Step by Step Guide to Unilag Postgraduate Registration/Verification Process 2016/2017

After I posted the 2016 admission list here, we got lot of calls  on where to go or what to do first.

Many are still overwhelmed even as some departments admission list is still not being uploaded. This is really an embarrassment for the management of the Postgraduate studies. Something must be done fast about this.

To avoid people been confused and feeling frustrated, let me prepare your mind and legs for the journey you are about to embark on.

Its will be filled with fun and jerks, you will make many friends and meet your classmates for the first time.  it will be like the old Jamb period re-enactment.

Just enjoy the process, because trust me many people will get on your nerves.
you will be moving from one desk to the other carrying white papers for signing as if you are begging for food to eat.

Meanwhile, lectures might be going on in your department.

So in this post I listed the step by step guide or call it TABLE BY TABLE GUIDE to Unilag Pg registration exercise and signing.

I expect you to have downloaded your admission letter and your payment advise

If you're ready, lets dive in.

I will be giving out updates as they come in.

Step by Step guide to Registration & their Venues

STEP 1. Make copies and print all of your documents listed in my post here.

STEP 2. Pay your N5k for Pg prospectus at the PG school near education then collect receipt which is requirement #9

 Venue: Pg school Room 5

STEP 3. Go to the department to fill your required courses for the session. the department will give you the courses you need to fill.  Don't worry if you make a mistake or if you don't really know which elective to take or not, just fill all, later on as the semester progress you will be asked to delete any course you dont want or fill the course you want

 Venue: Your various depts

STEP 4. Signed your portion of the course forms and biodata forms. There are 4 places for four signatories
 a. Yourself
 b. Bursary
 c. Dept
 d. Pg school

Venue: In your room (lol)

STEP 5. Go to Bursary with your forms especially 1-4 and 8.

Venue: The bursary is located under the library or before you climb the stairs leading to the Main library besides the Main auditorium  at Akoka campus.

(Here they might ask you for settlement as in lets wash the admission before they sign. Don't give them anything, just smile and tell them there is recession)

STEP 6. Go to the department and ask the HOD to sign your course form. This is where most forms are normally delayed.  You may have to leave the forms with the secretary and come back for it the next day as, the HOD may be forming busy and wont attend to you.

 (frustration point #1)

 Venue: your various department

(Those whose depts are in  Idiraba, will move to and fro like the CBN forex policy this season)

After successfully crossing this hurdle go to the next step

STEP 7. Go to PG school for your signing, here they will require all documents, original and all.

Your originals will be sighted and returned to you, please take it back and keep. The official will keep a copy of your document

 (frustration point #2).

Here there are usually long queues and the staffs are sometimes lazy and closes before time.

Venue: Multi-purpose Hall C beside Pg school.

By this time all 4 signatories must have signed and stamped. Go to the next and final step

STEP 8. Go back to the department and submit a copy, and keep one for your self.
usually its only three copies that are required. but followed the rules and make four.

 NOTE:

Duration for all these will probably take Minimum of Three hours and for some Three days, others Three weeks Max.  But trust me, its stressful and filled with enough egoism and attitude from both departmental and Postgrad staffs.

 Get ready for drama.

After you get through this, dust yourself up and congratulate yourself as you officially became a full fledged student of The University of Lagos (UNILAG) - The school of first choice.

I will be giving out updates as they come in.
