UNILAG Postgraduates 2014 Forms Updates - Can a 3rd Class do Masters in Unilag?

I got a question recently from one of my subscribers and am sure you may be asking the same question?

Here its goes:

===========================

"Hi,

Can a third class graduate apply for Pg in Unilag?

Pls advise me before I make a mistake"

Txs.

Name withheld.
===========================

That is a very good question, so i decided to make the answer open to everyone including you.

MY ANSWER:

Yes, 3rd class graduates can do masters program in Unilag.

Apart from Professional Courses such as Geosciences, Engineering, Law and so on that requires one to do Postgraduate Diploma before Masters degree, you can actually do Masters degree directly in many other courses.

Most courses in Education, Business Administration and Arts, Less competitive courses such as Cell Biology and Genetics, Parasitology and Bioinformatics e.tc and more competitive courses such as Master of Information Technology (MIT), Master of Environmental Management(MEM), MSc Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Management e.g accepts Third Class to mention just a few.

However note that terms and conditions applies.

You might also want to go to the department and verify before applying.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD YOUR UNILAG PG PAST QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS NOW

A Third Class graduate of Systems Engineering is in-eligible to apply for MSc Systems Engineering directly but eligible to apply for MIT.

Similarly, a Third Class graduate of Geology is ineligible to apply for MSc Geology directly but eligible to apply for MEM or MSc Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Management.

 A Third Class graduate of Chemical Engineering is ineligible to apply for MSc Chemical Engineering directly but eligible to apply for MEM

Pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma is good if you have a valid reason to do so, if not I will advise you find a course that you can do directly, so as not to waste timw and spend too much time in the four walls of a school.

How about HND Graduates?

Most Courses require one to do Postgraduate Diploma, however some few courses such as Master of Business Administration (MBA), allow you to do Masters degree directly .

General ADMISSION CRITERIA

More emphasis is made on your exams score. if you have first class, 2.1 or a graduate of Unilag only counts if you do not meet the cut-off mark. so to avoid stories that touch, i will advise you as a friend to pursue the MERIT list, which is far easy to get into.

All you need to do is prepare very well, and start right away. Dont put if off to some weeks before exams, by then its too late. Trust me merit list by then will be very hard to grab.

What about PAST QUESTIONS for my course?

I get this questions a lot.

Unilag repeats questions a lot.

Some session they would repeat the whole thing. That may still happen this time around. That's why i advocate that you familiarize yourself with the questions now.

That is the only way you will know 5 things well

1. The type of questions expected
2. The duration and thinking of the examiners
3. The right way to answer questions
4. The area of concentration
5. Your area of weakness and how to tackle them
